The foundation of a thriving city is its ability to protect its residents. Ensuring that our streets, schools, and public spaces are safe isn’t just a priority; it’s a necessity.
I recently had the chance to attend the National Night Out event on August 6 at Sunset Ridge Park. This event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our local law enforcement, first responders, city staff, and residents. I got to speak with many of the dedicated officers and first responders who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.
These folks are out there every day making sure we’re safe, and it was inspiring to hear about their experiences and the challenges they face.
Expanded Resources to Match Victorville’s Growth
One of the key issues we discussed was the need for a new police station and the hiring of additional deputies to meet the increasing demands of our city. As Victorville grows, so does the need for a stronger public safety infrastructure. Our current police station is outdated and overcrowded, which can hinder our officers’ ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. Additionally, it would make it easier to increase our police force, which I believe is essential for maintaining the safety and security of our neighborhoods.
I’m also a firm believer in data-driven solutions. During my time on the City Council from 2014 to 2018, I pushed for initiatives that were backed by research and evidence. This approach ensures that we’re not just throwing money at problems but are investing in solutions that work. For example, we can use data to identify crime hotspots and deploy resources more effectively. This kind of strategic planning is crucial for making the most of our public safety budget and ensuring that every dollar spent has a positive impact on our community.
Strengthening Bonds Between Police and Residents
National Night Out also gave me the chance to meet with many of our residents. It reminded me that public safety isn’t just about buildings and equipment—it’s about people. I was deeply moved by the stories shared by our first responders and by the strong sense of community among the residents who attended National Night Out. It’s clear that when we come together, we can overcome any challenge. That’s why I believe that community engagement is just as important as any law enforcement initiative. By fostering relationships between residents and police, we can build trust, reduce crime, and create a safer environment for everyone.
This event reminded me that a safe community is built on strong relationships and mutual respect. It is through events like these that we strengthen our bonds and reinforce our commitment to looking out for one another.
Join Me in Building a Safer Victorville
As I continue my campaign for Victorville City Council, I remain focused on the goal of making our city a safer place for all. Whether it’s advocating for a new police station, supporting our first responders, or engaging with the community to build stronger relationships, I am committed to making Victorville a city where everyone feels safe. But I can’t do it alone.
It takes all of us—residents, law enforcement, and city officials—working together to create the kind of community we all want to live in. I invite you to join me in this mission. Together, we can build a safer, stronger Victorville for today and tomorrow.
